I have used them in the past. The problem with most staffing agencies is the response you get is only as good as the people who are trying to help you. More often than not, they will either falsify your information or find a poor match for your skills just to earn their commission. SO, while you may get a job, it might not be the right one for you.
Three pieces of advice:
1. Review your approach as it stands (how does your cover letter look, how does your resume look, and how do you follow up with the potential employer) by asking indifferent third parties who might be able to give you pointers on them ...professors, friends in management or old-school business owners are usually good.
2. If you are seriously considering staffing agencies, ask around about a short-list of them and see what people know, then go in and INTERVIEW them to see if they are good enough to help you out.
3. Read their contract before you sign on the dotted line with them.

It's something that you should definitely try. Be selective in the agency that you use. There are some agencies that are nationwide and would be able to place you even if you relocated. When you register with an agency, you are the one that will determine what your pay rate range will be when you go through the interview process. Based on that info, the results of your skills tests, and the incoming requisitions for employees, you will be placed accordingly. Just be willing to be a little flexible if you want to work immediately. Sometimes they'll have an assignment that may be closer to your home, but at a slightly lower rate. What you spend in travel time and other travel-related expenses might be equivalent to the difference in salary. Weigh the pros and cons in every position offered to you.
One more thing: always stay in contact with the agency that you register with. That lets them know you are: 1) available to work; 2) still interested in working; and 3) motivated.
Good luck!

Yes I have used staffing agencies many a time. I'm a nurse and the use of agency staff is a fact of life in nursing. Not as much as in the past but still used.

I used a staffing agency after 6 months of unemployment. They started me off with high-input/low-income jobs. As I took on more & more assignments and pleased their clients, they started assigning me to better & better jobs. I was eventually hired on with a large Oil company & I've been happily working with them for the past 3 years (hired by the company 1.5 years ago).
It's also a good way to gain a wide range of experience.

I've been working for one for about 4 months now. Its a good way to find different career's. There are lots of good things about working for them like, getting paid each week, doing lots of different things, able to leave a job easily and get a new one, and maybe getting hired on full time. There are also lots of downsides like, being treated like a second class citizen, being ignored, doing crap jobs ( like for the last two days I've spent them alphabetizing files), people talk to you like ur an idiot, and working and learning new things and doing a great job than they let you go to have the original person return from leave. Good luck with it.

examine your registrations or agreements. some businesses have no-compete clauses or conflict of interest rules. some will possibly no longer aid you paintings with different businesses on a similar time. in case you achieved a no-compete clause, confirm that it does not make extra advantageous previous your final day of employment, with the aid of fact it could propose which you're actually not allowed to paintings for a competitor for a particular quantity of time, whether you're actually not to any extent further working with the unique corporation!
