Probably because you're searching so hard for one particular "thing" that you miss everything else around you.

I'll give you an example. Have you ever misplaced something and the more you looked for it the more frustrated you became just to find out it was sitting on the table in front of you the whole time? It's the same thing. The more you search for something, like love, the more likely you are to miss it. :)
