Yes it has happened and no you cant defend yourself! Once words leave someones mouth the rumor is out and spreads I tried to ignore it and prove myself by my real actions but ppl wanted to believe that crap.
So one day I said this is it and I found out who started the trash talk and I confronted her,of course she lied!Did this solve anything no she said more stuff and more rumors came out!
I had it so I went to her house and her hubby came to the door I told him she needs to stop he said F off so I beat him so bad it cost me over 4000 dollars in medical bills and now every one just looks at me and I hear things like dont mess with him he will attack you! But that is fine the rumors stopped about me being some kinda drug dealer now!
I work with kids and teens and I cannot afford to have ppl thinking I am a drug dealer which I am not!! And yes I went over board but a person can only take so much crap in life!

I believe that is just a part of life. I really don't care what they said, if a friend wants to believe what they were told, then they aren't a good friend anyway. A few years back, a jerk brother in law whom nobody liked anyway, talked a bunch of crap about me. My son saw that I wasn't upset about it, and asked me why. I told him that he can say whatever he wants about me, and I just considered the source. He talked crap hoping that I would get pissed and go after him, but I didn't give him the satisfaction, pissing him off even more.

There have probably been more stories told about me than I could possibly ever guess. I say "To hell with 'em" because there's no point in grousing about it. If it makes feel better about themselves to point veiled accusations about others, so be it; they're only proving how pathetic they really are, and will learn their lesson the hard way.

Maybe they were the one who said it...that is usually the case if they don't tell you in the first place...I mean it wouldn't hurt them to tell you who said something that obviously was untrue...just let it go....people who really know you will know it's a lie, so everybody else doesn't matter...

I just tell them that I have to assume that they are the one telling the lie, and I have no interest in taking part in the drama they are trying to kick up.

That kind of situation lately happened to me. I just ignored it cause I've got bigger problems than wasting time on a gossip thats absolutely not true.

Of course! I have learned not to let it bother me because it is just gossip and they are the sick ones. If you let on like it does NOT bother you, it will stop because you are no fun.
