why do some people lie not stop just for the sake of lying? how do you get them to stop?

depends on the age of the person.if that person is a child,then give him a few smacks.i m not bad tempered or anythin,but if this is left unnoticed,that means he can grow up 2 b a bad individual(lier,thief).little drops of lies make the biggest of criminals.so this has got 2 b stopped at once.if that person is adult,that means u have gotto 1st advice him,then only take drastic steps if possible.sometimes,there are ppl who always tell lies and always tell the truth.if u have read the mahabharatha,u will know that yudhistir never even lied once in his life.depends on how their family upbringin is.parents can b bad but if the child is properly trained,then he can become a good man.eventually u must understand that tellin a lie may result in the circualtion of a million lies.it all depends on the upbringin.an adult can b changed if he is advised and councelled properly.

Some people lie as a way of life. It could be a sign of sociopathy or addictive problems or something else; it is definitely part of some personality disorder. You can't get them to stop. You may get them to cut down on lying sometimes, but you should never really trust them.

i think the best way to help yourself is to
just completely not believe ANYTHING they say
and make your actions as if you don't believe what they say
so just don't believe anything they tell you.
they will hate it because they're not always lying and they want you to belive most of the stuff they say.
just don't belive any words. make them do actions before you belive. make them prove it.

This probably relates to a number of factors one being low self esteem and the second could be it is simply habitual.

You can't make them stop. Most are pathological liars and that is a mental illness which is very hard to cure.
