When I first started my aquarium up years and years ago I bought 10 of color injected tetras not really knowing much about it. Most of them died right away and the all but one died within a few months. The one that did live lost its color after about 6 months. Now that I am more educated about this process I would never buy a fish that was humanly altered for appearance purposes again.

Yes, I learned the hard way that it makes the fish sick and suseptible to contagious diseases like Ick.
I bought what I thought were incredibly beautiful painted tetras with flurescent colors....
after a week they got ick and gave ick to all my other fish...
doing research on the internet I found out this is due to injecting dyes into the fish!

I'm against dyeing, tattooing, or anything done to alter a fish just to make money faster.
See dyeing article from Practical Fishkeeping: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=72
See tattooing article: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/blog.php?blogid=32 (click on laser dye technique link within article for how this is done)
There was another PF website I saw condemming tattooed fish with Valentine's Day designs. To quote the article "Nothing says 'I love you' like cruelty to animals."

In my opinion it's wrong. It damages the fish and causes serious health problems for the fish. Totally uncalled for.

It's wrong. Artificially coloring your fish is just plain wrong and can kill your fish.
