...the difference between the original "Vanishing" (France 1988), and the remake, released in 1993, is very distinct in that the original is considerably stronger and viceral than the remake; the remake, although still a good movie to watch, tends to pull it's punches (although giving credit where credit's due, the remake WAS one of Sandra Bullock's first feature film roles). I cannot go any further than that, without really giving anything away, and I don't wish to ruin the experience for you.

...the original???....OMG!!! Highly recommended, and not to be missed!!!

It is not, strictly speaking, a horror movie. It is very suspenseful. I do agree that it is not nearly as good as the original, but Keifer Sutherland does a nice job. You won't see blood and gore.

The remake is weak and the ending is lame...they said...when the remake was released...The ending was Americanized because Americans can't handle real terror or horror in their cinemas.

The American version sucked something awful.
Look for the French version. 100 times better film.

I'd call it Suspense.
