Unfortunately yes.
Sports fans any where can be dangerous lot.
Look at hooligans at football matches in Europe.
In India it is cricket which makes people crazy about the game. There is nothing wrong being passionate about any thing - be it game or any other activity. But for God sake do not make it do and die issue. Be with in the limits in your passion. Like no burning of effigies if you loose. Like wise, if team wins- no making the players super heroes over night.
Then our politician want to grab the lime light and gift away public property to these so called heroes- prime plot of land. This is utterly non sense.
A normal worker works for his lifetime to own a small house that too after hard work of many years. And these spineless politicians when in power only want to gift away lakhs to young players. I think in future this should not happen and public should raise concern about this and stop all this.
Media also to blame-along with companies who want to cash on the lime light of players to increase their sales. I think all should sit together and form a common code of conduct and not to fool the public by using cricket as means of advertising products.
Lesser we say about BCCI is better.
Finally people should find better avenue to spend their time and energy rather than game of cricket.
God save the Indian masses from cricket mania.

Well Said, Sreesanth!!! Ppl are treating cricket in india as a religion and pakistanis do it to, only a lot less.... That's why we have violence from fans just becoz we lost a mathc against Bangladesh or Sri lanka..... They should stop treating the sport as a religion and the players as gods.... it just doesnt work that way!!!!

While cricket is a most popular game in India and many people are very crazy about the game, I do not agree that cricket is like religion in India.

I think we should refrain from using the words cricket and religion in the same breath. Religions relate to God ,teach us to be spiritual, philosophical and moral and a way of life. Indians are passionate about cricket ,no doubt, but definitely not devoted to it in the manner one is devoted to a religion. To mention cricket as a religion is just a rhetoric, not a fact, Besides practioners of most religions object to this practice of calling cricket a religion. Do we honestly accept a batman who scores a century for the Indian cricket team as a bigger hero than a soldier who lays down his life in the defence of countries bondaries? Les us distinguiish religion from passion. Let us demonstrate our patriotism by playing the in right spirit, by exercising our franchise judiciously and voting rightly.paying our taxes.,by living within law, by being civil to each other and doing our duty to the nation.

I think I have to agree that Indian fans are so much involved in mind and soul in cricket. But I am not quick to critisize it. You have to consider many emotional, social, economical stances before deciding whether it's a wise move or not. By the way I think Indian fans add so much liveliness to live cricket. It's always a pleasure to see them in the stadium cheering...

cricket is very close to heart for many in india and in indian sub continent in particular.
no other game brings out so much of emotion ,outrage ,ectasy, fun ,outburst, euphoria, joy!!!
no other sport can match the amount of enthusiasm as does cricket.
no other sport has seen so many heartbreaks and incidents of life loss whenever india has lost.
no other sport has seen millions go and pray to god in temples for indian success!!!!
it is a rage,it is madness,it is simply a religion!!!
