Whatever his original goals in Iraq may have been, it's pretty clear that he's not going to establish some utopian democracy there.

But he's having difficulty even keeping his head above water. This surge may yet salvage the status quo in Iraq, but the increased OPTEMPO will result in increased troop exposure and casualties (and already has).

Deaths are guaranteed, for Americans too if we stay there, but success is not...

What reputation??

He has done so much harm to the US, it is difficult to comprehend. After 9/11 we had the support of almost the entire world behind us. If we had stuck to going after al Qaeda and not on some adventure that the neo-cons were planning since 1991, we would still have the world with us today.

Now the rest of the world hates that US.

By the way, last week Dick Cheney was still trying to make the case that Saddam Hussein was providing support to al Qaeda and was somehow involved in 9/11. Just how many people does he think still buy this crap?

It's now becoming clear why Bush was immediately very submissive after the last election. With a majority in Congress the Democrats can now subpoeana members of the executive branch who have not had to be accountable to the American people for the past 6 years. And as Gonzales demonstrated so well the only choice is to tell the truth and make it obvious that they are both corrupt and incompetent or do what Gonzales and feign not remembering and just look like a total a-s-s.

You are absolutely correct; the Democratic House and majority congress will definitely stop the US from achieving victory and establishing democracy in Iraq; just as they did in Vietnam. What is your question again? Oh yeah, Bush and his reputation. He doesn't need to save it from rational people so I guess he's safe. I bet that will keep him from worrying; huh?

and Reid was called traitor for just stating the facts, cold and hard as they may be.

Bush-Cheney believe that if they attack Iran and expand the war they can win by leaving the fiasco there for Democrats to deal with, because they will be gone in 2009, and will claim that Democrats made them retreat.

No Bush's reputation will never be saved, nor was he.

George W Bush's claim to fame will probably be that he has overcome his addiction to alchohol.
As far as his presidency he is a first class loser. A bombastic stubborn and obstinat horse's patootie.
Actually I love the guy and I would call him Mr. Potato Head if he were my little friend.

Unlike Clinton, he is not overly concerned about a legacy. He was elected to do a job and make the tough choices. He wasn't elected to win a popularity contest.

The only reason success in Iraq may not be guaranteed is because of pinko commies like yourself.

No.

He will go down as one of the few Presidential failures in US History (like Jimmy Carter, Warren G Harding, Herbert Hoover, etc)

He will NEVER save his reputation. He will go down as the worst president in history, and that says a lot with Nixon in office...

I don't think he has to worry about his reputation over Iraq and the war on terror...His rep in that field is secure... He is doing what he said he would do and despite all the hardship he is sticking with what he believes to be right.

I think his reputation slips on spending and illegal immigration. He needs to step up on both of those issues.
