As with anywhere in the UK the weather can vary a lot from one day to the next. The best of the weather is July and August when it's generally 'pleasant'. If you're visiting bear in mind that the UK doesn't have a dry or wet season and it can rain at any time.

The average daytime high is 21C (71F), on a cool day temps may struggle to reach 15C (59F), on a hot day 30C (86F) isn't uncommon.

As to what clothes to wear: bring a selection so you're ready for whatever the weather brings. There's no 'rules'about what you should and shouldn't wear, basically if it's acceptable in the US then it's fine in the UK.
