I went to buy a salad and knew that it was $3 something. I didn't want to take my purse or wallet with me so I took $4 with me. Turns out the total was $4.08!
So, I asked the lady next to me if she had .08 cents I could have cuz i forgot my purse!! She gave me a dime!
I was SO embarrassed!!! I felt like such a bum!!

A couple times I've been short a penny or two, and the cashiers usually just say to not worry about it, or they have those spare penny cup things to take it from. I have given people spare change, like once when the vending machine ate someone's quarter I gave them another one, and once when someone was $1 short to get gas I gave them $1.

It happens to everyone at some point, I think:)

This takes me back a ways. I'm the guy who will give an obvious homeless person 5 bucks. Sometimes it's hard to tell. Some people have homes and an income but don't budget their money. I know that sounds lame but it's true. Here's how I know. Once upon a time my brother n law found a guy sleeping in the park and brought him home. He was a homeless guy from Seattle. I used to visit over there a lot and became friends with this guy. He eventually became one of my roommates. He even got a good job as a painter. Worked 40+ hours a week. He got paid every Friday. Every Monday he was broke. Booze and drugs. Every Monday he'd start his begging. "Do you have a spare smoke?" "Do you have any spare change?" Every week. I hate it when people beg for cigarettes. One time I found a pack of stale cigarettes under the seat of my car. I'm talking 6 months old. Crispy even. I left them on the tv. Yep he took them just like he took everything else that wasn't nailed down. One time there was this big chunk of dried deoderant. It looked like a chunk of speed. So I left it on the coffee table. LOL. When I got home from work. Part of it was missing. Oh man he snorted it. He deserved it. He used to steal my stuff. Are you out there Snooper? I could go on for an hour about this dude. He snuck out his bedroom window one night never to be seen again. Back to your question-- Normally when someone begs me for money, I'll give it to them. I feel as though if a man is reduced to begging, he must really need it. What's a buck or five to me? I'll never miss it. I don't care what he does with the money either. . .

Yes, I have. I was in a store one day with my sister, and I had purchased a lot of crap. Well, I only took 200.00 with me that day, and my total came to 200.01 cents. I didnt have a PENNY! And neither did my sister. You would think that the cashier would " allow" me to get away w/o giving her a penny, but oh no, I would have had to put back a really cute vase that I liked JUST because I didnt have a PENNY! Well, as luck would have it, a nice little old lady told the sales clerk to put it on her tab. I could have hugged her! I was so relieved! Anyway, I wasn't embarrassed because everyone knew that I had-had money because I had just bought all this stuff. I just didn't have the ONE penny to complete ALL of my purchases.

I had the same thing happen to me at the grocery store once...I was digging for some change, and a man helped me out with the dollar something I was missing, at the time, and I have lso returned the favour on occasion, as well.

I did. on christmas day, my tire was going flat. i needed some air, and the town i was traveling through was very small, with only one gas station, and it was closed. I had enough change for the pump in dimes and nickels, but it only took quarters. My fiance flagged a car down and asked them to switch our change for a quarter...it was embarassing, but the woman was very nice;)

Something similar happened to me, but the good thing is that the person paid just before I was going to ask her, it was really embarrassing.
