you would not get a refund for broken material.

rather, it has a warranty, for a year, by nintendo - both of the systems have that warranty, as long as you don't open the system, or otherwise tinker with it.

for differences between the two systems, allow me to redirect you to this question - [http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av_Z5BqMAa0MLk00p1WK_qbsy6IX?qid=20061116171403AAeGoiv ]

as for the length of time they last, it depends on the environment they are brought into. that is, if you are rough with it, it will break, no matter what it is. my own regular DS still looks brand new, because i take care of it, and it will last much longer. my DS Lite will also last as long.

The DS is a very good console, but the Lite is just that much better. Not only does Wi-fi work better (they added a stronger signal processor), but also it's much sleeker than the bulky DS. the lite also has a brighter screen, so that could help you to play outdoors as well. Oh, and also, if ANYTHING breaks on the DS (either one), Nintendo's warranty will cover it as long as 1.) The warranty isn't void and 2.) You haven't tinkered with anything on the DS (A.K.A. open it up to tinnker with the hardware.) But if you use the DS a ton and carry it around with you to places, then get the lite.

So if you already have a DS, then it might not be a bad idea to upgrade. However, if you don't use your DS a ton, then you might just want to stick with the old one. But also, if you haven't bought it yet, then you still have 2 choices:
1. Buy a DS "value pack" that comes with a game (original DS) or:
2. Buy the lite

In the end it all comes down to preference. Just make the decision based on what you use yours for.

Nintendo DS and DS Lite are different versions of the same handheld gaming device developed by Nintendo.

Nintendo DS is the older version and DS Lite is the latest version which features a brighter screen and lesser volume compared to the old DS.

Feature set is the same becoz both have dual screens, wifi and both will play DS and GameBoy titles.

Hope this helps...

The difference is the size. The DS Lite, is LIGHTER, and smaller, hence the name DS LITE. The original DS, is bulkier, and larger. They are both covered by warranty, and if you have an issue with either, Nintendo should be able to help you out.

the difference is in size mostly. the ds lite is 25 percent lighter than the nintendo ds. the lite has rearranged buttons like the start and select. the mic is in the middle of the lite while the mic is at the bottom-left of the ds. the lite has 4 levels of brightness, while the ds has only 1 standard level. you can watch a very good comparison at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp7Be1qsbll or u can just search in http://www.youtube.com for ds lite reviews
