The laws vary from state to state but there are many states where they can fire you for no reason and your only recourse is to apply for unemployment compensation. Call your local Labor Department and apply.
Talk to a lawyer licensed to practice in your state because, since you didn't even say what state you're in, we can't even steer you to any informative websites.

Maybe he was talking about *your sales? What sort of business was it? I managed retail stores for 18 years.
The laws are different in each state. In California they better have THREE write ups to justify their firing. And the write ups should be based on the same offense being committed all three times.
The write up needs to show that the employer attempted to re-train and or develop the employee for success.
If they can't prove that they did their best to help the employee succeed, the firing can be contested and state unemployment benefits might still be rewarded to the employee.
That being said, if you are within your first 90 days of employment (Considered a trial period) they can let you go for NO REASON at all, simply saying, "it just didn't work."

No, you don't have any legal recourse. Since you were an "at-will" employee (you didn't sign an employment contract stating under what circumstance you can be dismissed and under what circumstances you can break your contract without penalty). If you don't have proof or witnesses of discrimination or harassment you wouldn't have much of a case if you wanted to sue your former employer. You might be able to go on unemployment for a certain amount of time--for which your former company will be notified that you are using you some of their umemployment insurance benefits.

I am sorry but there is nothing you can do. In some cases, fired employees have the rights. Which means that your employer must have a reason and reasonable cause to let you go.Your employer can not just let you go without any cause. But in most cases, employers will always come up with some reason and cause to justify his or her action in court. It is not worth taking it to the court due to the fact that it will cost you more money and time.
Even if you win in court, and stays for the job, your employer will watch you like a frozen caveman to see if you make a mistake. He/she will make your job harder and will give you more pressure.

Unless you have an employment contract stating otherwise, or you can prove a violation of State or Federal civil rights, you are out of luck on this one.

No. They had a reason to let you go. They probably said it was to due slow sales to make it easier for you to take.

His lying probably not, but check the sales figures for your company see if he is telling the truth or not. Second if he has been on your case has he documented any of it. If not you may have something.

Who to chose an attorney for Wrongful Termination?
LEGAL DISCLOSURE
You do NOT have to agree or accept any or all
Dedication
Samuel Moore Walton "Mr Sam, Helen Robson Walton "Mrs Walton, and James Lawrence Walton "Bud" , and Thomas M Coughlin, a protoge of Mr Sam, even though he did some wrong nevetheless, but lost because of the Code of Silence and the fear that all associates have of the powerful Legal Division of Wal Mart Stores, Inc.
I have not yet ben able to locate the name Samuel Robson Walton. I understand the he does not travel around the country to even try to motivate any Wal Mart associates like his dad used to. He may have foundations, but the money was earned by the ordinary non Board of Director associates. Wal Mart will improve their treatment of associates but it will take time.
The FBI's Cyber Division knows the password of this site and CAN deliberately DELETE it, accidentally leak it or sell it.
There are still FBI Agents that will defend and uphold the US Constitution even if it means questioning their orders and superiors. I respect them as I have met some, but I am glad that I never asked for their names.

Wrongful Termination with possible illegal implications at Sam's Club 6625 at San Fernando California 91340
William Gregory Lang or Bill Lang wants to transfer to a Sam's Club in Colorado as soon as possible. Mr Lang used to be trusted by Max Rafael Waller who made the mistake of telling him everything before the Termination on Monday, 23 April 2007.
Mr Lang is a decent and the Waller Family will pray for everyone that is against Max Rafael Waller
Team Lead Ambrosio Galvan also knows a lot of dirty secrets at Sam's Club 6625, but is nervous about losing his job if he sides with Max Rafael Waller
Sam's Club PD-57 was NOT adhere to by Club Manager Fidel Jacobo and Membership Manager Esperanza Lopez. No documentation of any complaints and the San Fernando Police Department or the Los Angeles Police Department ever showed for a "Work Place Violence." Please show proof since one complaint and one video tape does NOT establish workplace violence. Neither Mr Jacobo or Ms Lopez wanted to sign the papers of any meeting between two managers and Max Rafael Waller for Legal Documentation. No meetings to address any potentail problems at the Tire and Battery Center were brought up by the Team Lead or Management.
The Waller Family will pray for everyone that is against Max Rafael Waller formerly Assoc ID 0035 and Operator 007 proudly serving since Tuesday, 13 November 1990 - Monday, 23 April 2007 and only needed about nine years to do a minimal of twenty-five years to retire from Wal Mart Stores, Inc. He was one hundred percent vested in Profit Sharing and had a one month vacation allocated per year.
No meetings to address any potentail problems at the Tire and Battery Center were brought up by the Team Lead or Management.
As of Monday, 9 April 2007, the people of the Tire Shop are playing pranks and making it appear as if Max Rafael Waller is becoming forgetful such as the misplacement of tools and personal safety gear. The suspects are Erick Miron and Mark Castro. Esperanza Lopez was told and never had a meeting to discuss the topics brought to her attention by Max Rafael Waller.
Manager Esperanza Lopez was asked to verify this by reviewing the Surveillance video tapes and the request was not honored. Esperanza Lopez, Memebership Manager, was told about the pranks about two weeks ago but no meeting to difuse or address serious matters was conducted.
Max Rafael Waller is a share holder Wal Mart Stores, Inc stock. He has about 11 shares so he has vested interest. Also at the time of the termination, Max was 100 percent vested in profit sharing.
Miguel P Herrera might had spread misinformation but is only a suspect.
Around 4 PM PDST{Sam's Club 6625 in San Fernando California 91340} or 6 PM CDST{Home Office in Bentonville Arkansas 72716} I called the office of the Regional A Vice President Mark Turner to possibly request a PD 57 Investigation on District 55 Managers Shane Dickerson and Michael Zobel along with every manager, except Robert, and everyone in the Tire Shop to include ex Tire Shop boss Ambrosio Galva at Sam's Club 6625, 12920 Foothill Blvd, San Fernando CA 91340, Telephone:1-818-365-7710 and Fax:1-818-365-0690.
Mr Turner's representative Missy asnwered but Mike Turner never returned the call. Shane Dickerson had possibly ordered Club Manager Fidel Jacobo to do the termination after a hasty meeting after 3 PM.
Wal Mart needs to show all internal complaints from all current and past associates, but they will refuse because it would reveal the true Wal Mart after Sam M Walton died.
Samuel Robson Walton and Wal Mart Stores, Inc do good things but can improve and I only hiope the New York Times will do a complete investigation since they are always in contact with Wal Mart's Home Office in Bentonville Arkansas.
I read the Los Angeles Times daily so I hope that they will have the courage and invetsigate Samuel Robson Walton and Wal Mart Stores, Inc otherwise I will start a subscription with the New York Times once I find a job with my decent Sales Skills
