The only little boxes I know of that these could be are the check-boxes immediately to the left of the track names. These check-boxes are used for a few basic functions, primarily related to either playing the tunes or syncing them to an iPod. If you double-click a track name, iTunes will play it, and then stop, but if you check some of the boxes, it will play through all of the checked songs until it reaches the bottom of the list. When loading podcasts onto an iPod, you can also select to have it only load the checked items. There isn't a way to delete these boxes, as they are specific to iTunes, not the individual tracks.
