Good point, and one that I wish Christians would consider more.

Christmas was not celebrated until a few hundred years following Christ. The church that was in power then had a habit of taking "pagan holidays" and making them "Christian holidays." The "Yuletide" took place around the last part of December - it is where Trees come from among some other traditions.

You are right - the livestock would have froze in December. Also notice that the census that Augustus Caesar decreed would have taken place in march/april as well.

i actually did Bible research for a number of years and your points are not only valid, but acurrate. Also, why would he order a census to be taken in winter ( which is why they were in Bethlehem ). If you want a better question, ask WHEN the concept of Christmas as a relegious holiday came into being and by whom? The real point is the attitude toward others (our fellow man).

It is entirely probable that the birth of Jesus was in September (during or near the Feast of Trumpets). Church tradition dates it in December. But, it is the time that we recognize the birth of Jesus.
