It sounds to me as a social anxiety. All these things fit with that. You can overcome this (if you want) by starting to do relexation techniques when you get into a (social) situation that is unpleasant to you. Also a way of gaining more self-esteem and self-assurance could be doing a drama class or something simular.
If you want more guidance with this it would be wise to talk to a counsellor or psychologist in your area.

You're suffering from an inferiority complex. You feel inferior to everyone around you. The fact of the matter is, it is insecurity or anxiety that makes you want to please everyone. Logic dictates that you can NEVER please everyone, not even yourself. Raise your self-esteem, and be relatively if not completely satisfied. Everything is relative.
The solution is to be confident in your own abilities, your own thought processes, your own appearance, and your own lifestyle. Everyone is different, so BE different, be yourself. Be proud of who you are. Do your best. Set Goals and achieve them. Be bold. Do not be afraid.
Go back to school and make up your mind to be the BEST at what you WISH to be best at. You will succeed. It seems that the only person you have to compete with at this time is yourself.

Inferiority complex.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferiority_complex
An inferiority complex, in the fields of psychology and psychoanalysis, is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extreme antisocial behavior, or both. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement, an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often resulting in a retreat from difficulties.

You're luckier than you realize. You say you have a wonderful man... plenty of people would love to be in your shoes right now. ;-)
But if you have someone who believes in you, and you believe in yourself 'when I set my mind to something I always do it', then what is stopping you? :\ And you should trust in yourself and, wouldn't you want to trust what your friend/boyfriend says? He's a great motivator, and if he believes that you can do it, then you can. Heck, even if he didn't believe that you could go back to school, I'm positive you could do it. :-) And at least you do have someone who supports you in your decisions. I have friends who really do feel left out because their own family does not want them to live their own lifestyle, and they'd rather abandon them than to show them any support. :( But you have a great man that believes in you, and I think that for him, and definitely for yourself ;-), you should go for it.
Oh, and don't worry about what other people think. :P Probably most of the time, they're too busy either worrying about themselves or worrying about what other people are thinking of them. ;P I worry about what other people think of me all the time, but lately I'm starting to grow out of that, and it really does help. Just be yourself. :-)
Good luck!

THIS IS LOW SELF ESTEEM. HOLD YOUR HEAD UP MY FRIEND; SOME PPL ARE MUCH WORSE OFF THEN YOU ARE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT. THINK OF ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED SO FAR IN LIFE AND THEN THINK ABOUT SOME OF THE PPL YOU DO KNOW WHO HAVE NOWHERE NEAR WHAT YOU DO. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL GIVE YOUR MORALE A BOOST. GOOD LUCK!
