Diesel is unlikely to burn cleaner (although some auto makers are now claiming to produce much cleaner engines than earlier models), but it delivers more energy per unit volume, by a factor of 147/125 (ref. 1) or 1.176. So if you can buy diesel for less than 1.176 times the per-gallon price of gasoline, it is cheaper for the energy delivered.
Fuel differences aside, diesel engines are typically more efficient than gasoline engines for three reasons (and maybe more that I don't know about):
They have higher compression ratios resulting in higher combustion temperatures, and by thermal principles, more efficiency.
They operate at lower RPMs, meaning less "windage" loss.
They don't have an air throttle, resulting in less "pumping" loss.
The tradeoff is that diesels are heavier, since they have to be stronger and more rigid to withstand the higher compression and combustion pressures. In a 45-foot boat, this would not be a major drawback.
Marine diesel engines are available in sizes appropriate for almost any size boat, but there are serious issues with emissions and their effect on marine life (ref. 2).

1- Diesel is more efficient than gasoline engine, mostly because diesel oil contains more energy than gasoline

2- diesel is usually a bit cheaper than gas, partly because it tends to be less taxed, and partly because it being a heavier petroleum distillate than gasoline, it is easier to extract and may not require as much refining. However, demands for heating oil, which is about the same compound as diesel, cause the price of that commodity to recently have raised to about the same as gas.

3- this is not an astronomy question

4- for someone who's tag name is keyboardcommander, you show poor command of proper typing skills; your spelling is atrocious

deseal is going to cost more and burn cleaner but gas cost less
