First of all, don't let anyone freak you out too much about having a baby with SIDS or something like that. Yes, smoking increases the risk, but what you need right now is some practical advice and not scare tactics. I know it's really hard to quit and I commend you for trying for your baby. It would be great for both of you.

Do you have a friend or family member that could help you with accountability? You know...keep tabs on you? LOL

Have you tried the patch or the nicotine gum?

Maybe you could start by just eliminating a few cigarettes a day and replacing them with something else enjoyable (ice cold Dr. Pepper, back rub, hot cup of coffee or tea, phone call to a friend, check email, etc.).

Also, think of the money you spend on cigarettes and all the other stuff you could be buying!

Best of luck and congrats!

Assuming morning sickness doesnt make it totally repulsive the only way of doing it is looking at some pictures of what it does to your baby and reading some medical info.

If your concience doesnt stop you then nothing will. Personally (and I am a smoker) I would be ashamed if anyone new or saw me smoking whilst pregnant. I want to stone women I see doing it.

Your baby will be born with a lower IQ. It has serious effects on your child and causes miscarriages.

Get some nicotine patches or something.

Worst of all only pikey scumbags smoke when they are pregnant mainly because they are so thick they know no better. You dont want to be associated with them do you?

I hope this helps you make the right decision!

Good luck with the baby

Whenever you want to light up:
Drink water
chew gum
go for a walk
call a friend

Find any other way to occupy yourself.

A friend of mine swore this method worked for him: He made a deal with his wife. Everytime he wanted a cigarette, they'd have sex instead. Worked for him.

My husband's doctor says there's a new pill out to help with those cravings. I don't know if it's safe to take while pregnant, so ask your doctor.

Edit: Another thing that's worked for people I know: Get a glass jar. Every morning, put a $5 bill in the jar. If you smoke (even once) that day, you have to take the $5 out. See how much money you can save by not smoking, then use that money to buy something HUGE for yourself (or the baby!). I have one customer who was able to buy a top-of-the-line brand new Mac Pro (Apple's newest computer) this way.

When I was pregnant smoking made me sick at my stomach. If what you are smoking now doesn't make you sick try something that will, ex.cigar. Oh and I do agree with the others about your and your baby's health, but I know it is a tough habit to break. When you do succeed don't start back after the baby is born you will regret it.

Hi hunny,
My mum smoked when she was pregnant with me and i was born healthy & normal. Smoking while pregnant is harmful, however instead of doing it for your baby, you need to do it for yourself. Try the nicotene patches. One thing when tryin to give up something is, if you do have one, dont make yourself feel guilty about it. It`s a vicious cycle. Substitute the smokin with something else, chewy or a hobby. Maybe go for a walk. I know its not easy. I quit smoking 2 years ago and ive NEVER looked back.

The fact that you have another life within you should be enough to make you stop smoking. If you continue smoking, this baby can become very sick or even die, because their lungs can't take it. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad, I'm just saying this so that your aware. Maybe if your more aware of this situation, you'll be able to quit.

You should probably talk to your doctor about it. Taking any pills or patches might affect your child as well. Other than that, I can give you no more advice because I am obviously no doctor. Take care!

Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to use the patch or to use the gum. I not try regular gum. Or you can think about it like this, What you spend on a pack or carton of cigarettes a week, think of the cute baby stuff you could get.

i smoke :( .......with my first child i was able to stop as soon as the morning sickness set in...
with my second i fought with smoking throughout the pregnancy...i started signing my checks over to my fiance so i wouldnt have any money on me to buy them, after about a week i didnt want them anymore....sounds silly but it worked!
ur still early in your pregnancy so the smell and the taste might make u feel blahh within the next few weeks

good luck!

just think about your baby and how much you will love that baby and then think of that baby dieing @ a early age just because the mother couldnt help to stop smoking.
