East London has a bad reputation. And, in truth, it wasn't the best of places to be. But recently, there have been many changes that have made East London a safe (for the most part) place. At least, in all my expirences in East London, and I used to live in London, East side is not bad. It's just not as nice as other parts of the city.

Should be fine, just don't walk about alone late at night or insult rough-looking guys around Tube stations (but that applies to anywhere in London).
