Both Hillary and Obama voted yes to reauthorize the Patriot Act so why do you support a candidate who voted to have your rights taken away?

it's like saying to a Republican "Why do you support Bush when he's running up a huge debt?" It's a little more complicated...
but, if I remember correctly, there were some changes made to the new act that deal with many of the larger issues. It wasn't just a carbon copy... so they didn't
and also there are many more factors at play here than just the simple facts of "the Patriot Act takes away our rights" and "they voted in favor of it"
I think the vast majority of Liberals support the vast majority of what is in the patriot act... but had big problems with certain parts of it... I mean I know many Republicans that had some big problems with parts of it...

Part of the patriot act was made unconstitutional when Mr. Bush added signing statements altering the bill. Those parts had to be rewritten, and since the Dems have gained control of Congress, Mr Bush has been using the special courts, so there are checks and balances in place to protect the American public.

I have yet to decide who will get my vote.
I think the Patriot Act is a violation of my rights as it lessens my rights as an individual that protect me from persecution by my government on suspicions.

its a very hard question. in one side the patriot act might help preveny attacks and worse stuff, and on the other side the patriot act can violate our rights by tapping our phones and etc. but many times the patriot act doesnt do ****, so its not so important, because even with it its not going to prevent attacks from happening, maybe 1/1000 chances it can help

The Patriot Act assumes that the government will use discretion in applying it. This administration has proven time and time again that it can't be trusted with such sweeping power. They will do anything to satisfy their greed for power and wealth.

Any citizen that has read The Patriot Act can plainly see it slaughters many of our rights. You don't have to be a liberal to see that. I am not a liberal or conservative and I see it.
As far as support, nobody knows who supports who on either side yet.

Neither voted to re-authorize the USA PATRIOT act. Like most conservatives, you have to lie to attack those who disagree with you.

It is not the Patriot Act, it is the ABUSE of the Patriot Act that *threatens* to take away our rights.

I don't, and not all of us do! As liberal I would support a republican if he or she addressed the issues that I want addressed in the way that I want them addressed. And getting rid of the patriot act is one of those primary issues. Not all democrats are Liberal and not all liberals are democrat. A lot of liberals don't follow any party line at all, myself included. *sm*
