No this is not true... except for the case of small children (like under 5). Because their eye muscles are still developing, by prescribing certain glasses, doctors can train their eyes to have better vision.

But once you are past that age, your eyesight is not going to improve without surgery.

Up until I was 18 I never wore my glasses, then started religiously. 10 years later, I can't see over the hood of my car without my glasses.......

No, not at all. It will actually get worse over time. Thats why many doctors refer patients to corrective laser surgery.
