The truth is that any amount of alcohol may harm your baby. The Surgeon General's press release indicates that there is actually a range of problems that affects babies exposed to alcohol, otherwise known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. These effects can range from subtle learning disabilities to central nervous system disorders and facial anomalies.
In some cases, alcohol effects may not be seen for years. Researchers from the UK in a 2001 study saw more behavioral problems with children ages 6-7 if their mothers consumed even small amounts of alcohol during their pregnancies in comparison to women who did not consume any alcohol.
It is best to avoid any alcohol and contrary to a growing public opinion, there is no safe level of alcohol during pregnancy

no it will not bother the fetus as long it is not over an 8oz glass. The wine will actually help you and the baby by keeping the blood thin enough to proceed. This coming from a mother blood is to thick during pregnancy to go through the body.did not find this out until after i stopped drinking a glass of wine a day for 8months. my blood got thick and clotted heavily and the baby past on. i had a still born at 8months .

true. a glass of wine a day is a bit much. that will definately pass through the placenta. now whether or not it will cause birth defects is not a risk i'd be willing to take. NO TO THE WINE or anything else.

It is advised that you don't drink when you are pregnant. But drinking a little wine while your pregnant won't affect the baby. Just ask those Europeans!!

I don't know about light to moderate drinking during pregnancy but I've always heard that drinking while pregnant causes harm, It's called Alcoholic Fedal Syndrome or something like that. But that's according to the US gov't. You could check out European, Asian, or African medical research to see what they say. And also according to the US gov't caffine, sugar, and chocolate can have an affect on the child.

It's really unknown exactly what level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy will cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. If you go back a couple of generations, women were not instructed to abstain from alcohol during pregnancy and the vast majority of us turned out just fine. Now, I would never recommend that someone just use the old "I turned out okay" excuse for justifying alcohol consumption during pregnancy. I, like most women, take the "better safe than sorry" route and abstained completely.

True.. Anything you take in goes to the baby. Why chance it.. I mean truthfully do you have to have a glass everyday.. If the answer to that is yes then that is selfish of you or whoever you are referring to.. This baby cant refuse the drink YOU CAN...

If a daily glass of wine a day would seriously affect the baby then there must be an exorbitant amount of brain-damaged Italians.
