alright i aint no football wiz....but i do know enough to say that i believe jamarcus russell is OVER-RATED!!!!! i mean seriously this guy has not proven himself to me.....where was HIS CANON ARM against Auburn when they failed to SCORE a touchdown.....where was his great accuracy against Florida where he went 24 completions for 41attempts with 3 INTERCEPTIONS.......he has not proven himself...and im pertty sure that there was no mention of him to even get votes for the Heisman...... to compare him with Brady Quinn over the sugar bowl would be stupid.....Notre Dame had a depleated defense while Mr. Quinn had to go against the ONLY THING THAT KEPT LSU IN THE TOP 10....THEIR DEFENSE!!!! i myself am a USC fan so i hate Brady Quinn and anything to do with the Irish...but the thing is if the raiders have any knowledge they will choose Brady Quinn over Russell...maybe even the guy from stanford or troy smith.....So what do u think....am i right or wrong...please express your opinion.....

Jamarcus Russell basically won one game right? LSU won their bowl game, but before that game who knew who that guy was? Anyway, right now he is being judged on his personal athletic ability (which is awesome), and he is judged by most to have the most value in the draft, and because of this, the Raiders have to take him. As a Charger fan, I would love to see them take Russell, just to see his *** hit the carpet six or seven times thanks to the Charger "D". This guy could be Jesus, but without an offesive line, it doesn't matter if he can throw the call 50 yards from his knees. They may have to change the sack rule to allow that for him to have a chance this year.
Because of this, the best thing that the Raiders can do, is either draft Russell at number one, and then try to trade him for more picks, or trade down now. They have no offensive line, and they will suck until they do. Which is great by me.
Anyway, in my opinion we are not talking about a quarterback that is even close the quality of Matt Leinart, who they passed on last year. And probably not as good as Brady Quinn.
Fight on Troy!

It is not that he is overrated, it is that people read too much into his stats. The kid is big and has a rocket for an arm. The fact that he can throw an 80-yard bomb should say enough about his physical stature.

He also led LSU to a great bowl victory. He carried that offense and stepped it up a notch in his most important game. That does show leadership ability.

The problem is that he doesn't make the best decisions. The NFL is played at a much faster speed so JaMarcus will need to be able to make snap decisions and make them correctly. Can he do it? Sure. The question is will he be the next John Elway or Peyton Manning?

I heard on the radio this week that some statistician looked at the last 20 years of drafts and calculated that QB is the highest risk position to draft. Safety and OL are the safest.

If I am the Raiders I am picking Calvin Johnson or trade down and take Joe Thomas, and trade away Robert Gallery.

Of course JaMarcus Russell is overrated. Nearly every player coming out of college and into the pros fits this category.

Others have hit on the fact that this is a weak year for QB's, and they're right. Russell resembles Vick in that he has a strong arm, and that sells tickets. It rarely makes wins, however, because strong arms are useless against NFL pass defenses; this has been proven time and time again.

He (and Quinn for that matter) will only live up to the hype if they are caudled until they are ready to take the field. Sadly, with Russell, this likely will not be the case. Instead, what you will have is what you had with Carter in Dallas: they will throw him to the wolves and end his career long before it has a chance to start.

Even more sad is Russell's attitude about the whole thing. Confidence can work if you can back it up. This guy is just cocky and that, ultimately, may spell his demise.

I believe that Quinn should go lower than Russell because Russells arm is stronger and more accurate. I do not believe Russell is overrated, I believe he is underrated. People believe he doesnt make good decisions because he's an African American from Mobile, Alabama that attened LSU which face it is not an academic school like Notre Dame, Stanford, Penn State etc. People say Russells decision making is bad but if i recall he out decided Quinn in the BCS Sugar Bowl. When matched with a real defense in LSU in the Sugar Bowl, Brady Quinn had multiple interceptions, one which was unjustly overturned by review due to reasonable doubt. Russell threw just one pick in effort to pad stats. And I see no comparison in USC and other Division 3 defenses that Notred Dame face and NFL defenses. If anything people should be impressed with the way Russell performed in possibly the top defense conference next to the Big 10. Teams like Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas never have terrible defenses. LSU's defense was the biggest, baddest, quickest defense Brady Quinn saw all year, actually, in his career, and he failed miserably.

Reason no Heisman votes for Russell: 2 loss team...Heisman= joke..where eric crouch..where troy smith going? please your best players aren't Heisman candidates.

Well...check this out. Russell was as close as it comes to an unknown until he beat Notre Dame and all of a sudden he's a godly QB. It was Quinn and Troy Smith before that...but my issue with Russell remains that maybe he's hyped up so much right now where Brady Quinn is more pro-ready NOW and Russell is a work in progress still. Of course rookies are all about potential, and Quinn...well we've seen how he runs a pro style offense and he can perfect that..Russell is more moldable at this point but a cannon arm wont make you a good QB...Kyle Boller anybody? Mmmhm...overrated? Maybe..Hype? You betcha. But I have no doubt that he'll be a good QB in the league anyway...I just think Quinn is the best option in this draft.

I would have to argue that Russell is in fact not over-rated but "over-hyped." as it always is for the projected #1 pick in the draft. But not to say that he doesn't have talent. He played against some good competition in his conference when comepared to Quinn who played against "so-so" competition when comepared to what Russell had to face. Although, Quinn has had more experience, and was playing under a better head coach in Weis. That doesn't point out to the things that you can NOT teach. Which is "size!" Russell has a 6-5 body frame almost comparison to daute culpeper but bigger. So it is hard for just one person to try and take him down, while Quinn has the under-rated speed to run when he needs too, he still makes questionable decisions, and that is what puts him below Russelll in most critics and sports analyst's minds. Russell has as strong an arm as Vick most people are saying, and as we say in the bowl game, can make the tough pases look easy. With his height he is able to see the field, i.e.) Russell is as tall as Manning and Young. Russell is also able to move around in the pocket and if needed buy some more time for his recievers to get open, like Manning does in the pocket. Other than that, the Raiders need a QB, since they past on a lot of franchise QB's the last couple years. So they will definitly not pass on Russell, although in the end I think Quinn will have the better career when the Browns take him with the 3rd pick! :)

JaMarcus Russell is not a great quarterback. This is not a good year for teams that are drafting quarterbacks. He and Brady Quinn are both good quarterbacks, but not great. Russell will get taken with the first pick, cause the Raiders need QB more than anything, and he looks a lot better than the guys that are on the free agent market. Russell reminds me a little bit of Daunte Culpepper, so maybe he and Randy Moss can have a good connection like Culpepper and Moss did.

Most definitely; he would not be in contention for the top 10 if he was in last years draft against Vince Young, Cutler and Lienart. In fact he might not be in the 1st round. He's highly considered a #1 pick because he is the type of QB Al Davis likes and Davis has the #1 pick.

I think thet fact that Russell is 6'8 and can throw the ball 50 yards on his knees says alot to a team like the Raiders who have the number one pick in the draft. owner Al Davis likes those types of QBs. the Canon arm that can go deep at any time. i'm waiting to see what he can do in the NFL I'm am a fan of Vince Young and Matt leinert. they both showed what they can do in college and in the NFL.I'll be looking forward to see what Quinn,Smith and Russell can do in the NFl.later.

Here is my problem with the draft!,..Your team needs a Qb!,..So the experts say take so and so!,..He's the best Qb,..in the draft!...So what!,..take that kick butt running back,..You can find a Qb ....better than Russel,..for 1 more season,...dont pass up on a killer running back or wide reciever,..b/c,.Russel is the best Qb,..in the draft!..Take the sure thing now!,..even though you need a Qb,...find any back up 4 ...1 season,..and move on!...YES!!!!...he is over rated,..there are no Peyton Mannings in this years draft!
