I just bought(he wouldn't give him away) a mistreated ferret & it's cage from a privet owner. The man owned him for two months(bought him from a petsmart), and never cleaned him out once.

The ferret, in two months never had a drop of water. The man gave him milk(cows) from an old water bottle that had spoiled milk caked to the sides. He's not interested in drinking water, what can i do to help correct this?

His wastes are mildy runny, but nothing too serious. He has a vets appointment tomorrow, but until then what can i do for him?

As far as bathing goes can i use baby shampoo? His white fur is literally orange from caked on urine and he smells horrific.

Are there any sort of foods i can give him right away to help balance his system out and calm his upset stomach?

His name is Rocky. I didn't pick it.

Of course i cleaned it's cage! First thing i did when bringing him home. Everything is clean, and he has a new water bottle. He came with a bag of ferret food... but it hadn't been open. He however, does not look under weight.

I don't even want to know what this idiot was feeding this ferret. I hate hearing idiot stuff like this. Why don't people take the time to research an animal before they purchase them? Its just terrible.

First things first...clean the cage THOROUGHLY and then seriously think about puchasing one in better condition.

You can give the ferret a bath with baby wash...he will not like getting a bath at all but it is possible. You will probably get scratched in the process. Just fair warning.

As soon as you get things cleaned up give him water. Probably in a bowl because I bet that water bottle is all moldy and disgusting with milk.

After you do that...go to the pet store and buy FERRET food. I recomend 8in1 ultimate and/or ZuPreem to start. It probably wouldnt hurt to purchase some ferret treats and toys as well. Does this ferret have a hammock? If not, get one of those too.

This ferret will probably refuse food, water, toys, treats, and attention at first. DON'T WORRY...he will come around. Make sure you take him to that veterinarian and give him lots of love and attention. Keep showing him his food and water. Continue offering treats and toys. It will work out.

I am so glad this little guy is now in the hands of someone who cares. Try out this website as well. It is easy to navigate and has TONS of ferrety information. Knowing as much as possible about your pets is important.

If you put water in his home he will drink it, especially if he has nothing else to drink.
Yes you can use baby shampoo to give him a bath.
Be sure to feed him kitten food, he need a high fat diet to be healthy.
Hope this helps.

Why don't you try and get in touch with a ferret rescue and see if they can give you some advice?

I agree that he will drink the water if that's his only option.
This is so sad. You are wonderful for rescuing him!
Good luck! What's his name?
