Whenever you're sure that you aren't ever going to get together again. If you don't have feelings for one another anymore then go ahead.
My mother and step father had the same thing go on. But before he left, he had beat her. So she knew they'd never get back together and got a divorce a month later.

My husband left me and two months later after I realized it was over, I started divorce procedings. Depends on what state you live in but each state has a waiting period before the divorce goes through. My state was 90 days. If you have the money I would do it as soon as possible.

Now would be a good time to get the papers filed because in some states it takes a year for the divorce to even go to court and be heard.

YOU shouldn't be the one filing my dear. Beware that if you DO, you will be the one picking up the tab, not him. Furthermore, you could just file " abandonment" and place an ad in the local paper, or if you know where he lives, whatever newspaper it is there, stating that you plan to file for an annulment since he abandoned the marriage. You have to give him 30 days to respond I believe. It would be a lot cheaper than hiring a lawyer! In Indiana it's like $25.00! In the meantime, be sure you pack up all his crap if he left it. so you can have a BIG "bon voyage Yard Sale!!! ;-) Good Luck hon.

I would get one right away and be done with it so you can both move on. You both need freedom the way it sounds. Move on, take a deep breath and welcome a new chapter to your life. You'll be all right and so will he. At least the abuse is gone forever in this relationship. Just be careful who you end up with and learn from this whole thing.
Hold your head up and move on one step at a time. First step... divorce. Second... life goes on.
Best wishes.

Any time you feel like filing. Go find a good lawyer and get it over with since you said there is no chance of getting back together. Why wait? Get it over with so you can move on with your life.

In Australia you must be separated for 12 months before a divorce will be granted.
I dont know where you are, but i'd check with a solicitor to what the laws are where you live.

Anytime that you can afford to. Seek a legal consultation with a lawyer, and know what your rights are. Afterwards, if you are not already in counseling, please seek some..it helps. There are also support groups as well. Enlist help from family and friends , get as much support as you can. Make sure that you are safe. He left, but be strong and stay away from him..no one deserves to be abused. Good luck.

File NOW. He sounds like a loser, and it will be much harder to get divorced if he skips town.
If you can't afford a lawyer, get a Pro Se packet at the courthouse & do it yourself. Time is your enemy here..get it done so you can move on!
