BRAXTON HICKS i had them for months and liked the feeling until it came to the real thing, this is your body's practise contractions, just getting itself ready doesn't mean you are going to have the baby now, just warming up, good luck

If it is in your tummy only it could be braxton hicks contractions which means your uterus is practicing for real labor. On the other hand, if they are felt in your back and stay consistent (not everyone stays consistent with contractions), your doctor will advise to come to the hospital when they are 5 minutes apart or you can't breath thru them. Remember that once you enter the hospital and are in confirmed labor, you are not allowed to leave and come back. If you can still breath thru them stay away from the hospital for a while. Good luck!

Keep yourself as calm as you can... You have good answers... the attending Doc will tell you if you ask and listen carefully.
However.. if you wish to verify the information and confusions i should guide to contact.. by e-mail ... doingall3@yahoo.co.in .. where probably you may get some better help.. professionally .. but inform whatever Medical attendant have informed you.. it is absolutely Confidential Channel.. and you can and you should feel free to share your every little doubt / fears / question and information .. this channel is devoted for such Family and Health, especially Mother and Child Health information .. which you can share with others who need such help ..
Relax.. and believe the answers so far given are quite good.. and helpful.. in a general way.. it does happen.. and it may be as explained by others on this answering line.. OK .. but relax.. mentally..

you are having contractions, if they are close together and regular, go to the hospital, you are getting ready to have your baby. If they are not regular and come on then go away with movement they are probally Braxton Hicks which are just "practice contractions", if you'd noticed any blood or water coming out of you, you are in labor.

Sounds like you may be having contractions (probably braxton hicks since you didn't mention any pain). I would mention it to your doctor/midwife as they may want to have you checked to see if you are dialating. I gave birth at 37 wks, sounds like you may as well! Baby Blessings!
