If you are in the United States you can go to the County Clerk of the county where the property is and ask them. They work off parcel numbers, but will have a cross reference to street address. They can tell you the entire history of the property. If you want copies of any document they will usually charge you for them. In most cases looking is free though. In my county there are monitors in the Clerks lobby and you can search yourself.
