You do those problems by dividing the initial cost in two, then find half of what the difference is supposed to be. Subtract from one and add to the other.

650/2= 325
70/2=35
325+35= 360
325-35= 290
360-290=70

Dryer is 290 and Washer is 360

B. You want to start by finding an average for the three. It is 44gallons. But you can't do it like the problem above, because if you divide 12 by two and add it to oct and subtract from september, november is too big. (the total ends up being too much.) So then you just have to play around with the estimated numbers making sure 2S=N and S+12=o.

Sept= 30
Oct= 42
Nov=60

A: divide 650 by two. this makes two sets of $325. the washer and dryer.
divide the difference between the washer and dryer by two. 70/2=35.
you have 325 and 325. add 35 to one side and subtract 35 from the other. this gives you 360 and 290. that is the price of the washer and dryer.

gets a little more difficult in b, but its almost the same thing. i dont feel like typing it all out.
october is 42
september is 30
november is 60
