The world is supposed to drastically change by 2012. Some say the world will end, butsome think it will be more like a series of nuclear attacks that will ultimately lead to one world governement and microchipping of the human race (mark of the beast slavery etc).

Religous end-times predictions aside, it probably won't be too long. Given the destructive nature of mankind, I think it's likely that madkind will destroy itself completely now that it has the physical capability to do so.
