You must have failed civics in school because you obviously don't pay very close attention to current events.
People said that during the Vietnam War a lot. The Viet Cong and NVA from North Vietnam and communist sympathizers were defending their homeland, in South Vietnam. A place at the time that was trying to become a democracy on their own.
It made about as much NONsense as your statement just then about Iraq.
