discrimination unfortunately is part of human Nature. We select, classify and discriminate. Is an instinct that provides the warranty for the survival of our species. Although we all are human in condition, we all are different in thought, behavior and aspect. We tend to subconsciously seek those that are similar to us in color, aspect, goals, hobbies etc.. But when we consciously discriminate others, this "classification" and "discrimination" becomes cruely racist. Because we are no longer differenciating between survival and criminal activity. When we purposely seek to attack, offend or deny someone who is different from us, then we have lost our purpose as human...which is the to seek the warranty to our kind's survival without harming others.

Indeed it is, yet it is a subject that should be addressed...as it is not going to get any better, unless people have some sort of outlet. We have to get to the root of the problem, not just give it an antidepressent to gloss over it. Let people argue about racism, and hear others views, its a good learning experience if anything else, and what a better place but Yahoo Answers! At least we arent out beating eachother with pipes. For those of you who are pessimists you may not like my optomistic outlook, and I can respect that, however I have one thing that you lack and that is Hope.

It is pure and simple to me. Racism at its core is a form of evilness and hatred and it makes me sick. I am not saying I have never been guilty of it, but it is very wrong. First of all, if you care about the person, you need to let them know that how you feel and why. You ask them to watch the things they say and that you do not like being around the negativity. Good people can not accept this behavior and we need to stop it on a personal level. The problem is a lot of good people show signs of being a racist, but they do not understand what they are up against.

Nothing! These idiots will roam the earth long after you and I are dead. It can't be stopped because it is a disease passed on from generation to generation. The only solution to get rid of it would be to eliminate the sources and that would be unethical and immoral. At least then the kids could grow up and not be brainwashed. My mom could be racist for what happened to her as a child and teenager but she isn't. She didn't teach me to hate other races like some parents teach their kids. It is really sad how families abuse their children in this way. The only thing I can do is treat my children to love and not hate. If we all do our little part then things will get better over time. It will never be gone but it could be a lot better.

When is racism NOT going on a lot on the internet?

Society can't do anything to stop racism.. unless you decide to try to brainwash every single member of society itself, or just have every racist executed. Since those are both pretty awful ideas, all I recommend is that if you're raising kids, teach them to be open-minded towards all races and ethnicities, and try to do the same for your other family members.

If people realized that what they call "race" is more like "culture" it would be much simpler. Some people have... unsavory or unhealthy cultures. This is true of some groups of white people in various parts of the US as well as black people in poor urban environments.

A little understanding goes a long way. These cultural things, like not reporting a murder to the police and so forth, are highly destructive to society.

Indeed, some cultures need a great deal of help, but it's not all minorities...

Actually, it may be a response from primortal days when outsiders were not welcome(regardless of color).

Have you read the Bible...2000 years ago, massive injustice, slavery, poverty, disease, famine, war, hatred, RACISM, ad nasuem!

and it's 2007...NOTHING has changed...same game, different day.

Our "progress" is that we have AC, and we smell better, but in terms of humanity? We are still the same knee-jerking, reactionary entity.

Even ANIMALS know when resouces are scare, they don't create off-spring...see how smart we are as humans...6.5 BILLION and growing...and the system(earth) will crash in the not-to-distant future since you can't get more out of a system than you put in.

I don't think society really can. I think each person has to. It's already socially unacceptable, but there is still racism, from blacks and whites. It may be more hidden, people aren't as open about it, but it's there. Every person can make a difference. We need to teach our children better than we were taught.

1) Every person must decide for him/herself that racism stops right here with him/her.

2) Every person must become aware of and better their own language about race. Everything we say effects others, especially children.

3) Every person must agree to support and abide by laws, ethics, and morals that make sure all people are treated equally.

4) Every person must live with an open heart and mind to celebrate the wonderful diversity that humanity has to offer.

5) We must be open to radial ideas that challenge our paradigms about "us and them" and be creative in ways to implement those ideas.

Hate and fear of people, cultures, etc. that are different is a part of human nature. We can teach and preach it all we want, oh yes, and it will work. But not all the way. The only way to get rid of racism is to change human nature itself.
