not sure if i quite get this, but i'd say clocks. There's no link to any physical, predictable process there. Clocks are set by a human whenever the human feels like it. Cows' teeth, &c, provide a reference which is independent of human interaction

Tooth wear. That depends on what the cow has been eating.

Also... treee rings. It has been shown that sometimes trees can produce more than one ring per year (but it is rare). Your teacher might not agree with this one, unless you can come up with the scientific study that I saw a few years ago. (I'll leave it up to you to Google that one).
