every time I host a game it doesn't display any of the normal information and just says "cannot join game", whereas other games that we enter display all the info. The same thing happens to him whenever he hosts. Does anyone know what's going wrong?

the latest patch is automatically downloaded when u log on to battle.net, but it could be a problem with your virus protection or firewall, this could be the case if ur both using the same anti-virus program. If thats not it, did u or ur friend use the spawning option on the CD?

This happened to me last month, when I re-installed starcraft.
You need the latest patch. That's how I fixed mine anyways.
