Mine would have died a long time ago! The dust blocks sunlight from entering the leaves for photosynthesis. Some (very few) plants have their pores on an upper surface so they could get blocked by dust and not allow oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange.

Best to keep the dusted. Beware, some "dust" may actually be red spider mite infestation. Microscopic mites that suck juices from the plant. They feel like dust and small webs can be seen.

i dont think dust will kill the plant right away.. but it does block the sun from getting to the leaves.... i usually spray my plants at least once a week with a spray bottle... that way i am adding moisture into the air and cleaning off of the plants....
