I have a baby red ear slider. I got him on April 7th. He has a turtle dock that he can climb onto, which he does. Sometimes ill come into the room he will be on his turtle dock, but a split second later he jump back into the water. Is this normal? Iwas also wondering if it is only temerarily or if its always like this.

Most RES do this when basking. It's like when they bask they're having their private moments and when someone walks in the room they've been "seen". My RES does this sometimes even now and I've had them both for 2 years (since they were 1" in diameter too) Your RES may always do this. It may be temporary, may not be. It depends on the turtle.

Perfectly normal and it's just their instincts to jump in to protect themselves. They don't know they are in a safe environment so just doing what comes naturally, hide. Most will get used to you coming into the room after awhile if you don't come in making a lot of noise.

Let's see...

Your turtle is resting comfortably then senses a giant creature coming in the room, so he hides.

This is perfectly normal and it will probably get used to it.

That's what turtles do for survival.
It's called "escaping predators".
