We fought the country OF Iraq, for a few days, and toppled the ba'ath regime government.

We then allowed DEMOCRATIC elections.

We are now Fighting "people in Iraq", who do not want to honor the wishes of the Iraqi people. We are NOT fighting "the iraqi people".

What is so hard to understand about that?

please focus on the question, and remove your Bush-hating rhetoric, which not only has nothing to do with the question, but can't be backed up.

Nothing is hard to understand there. But you haven't made a point.

Are you really so ignorant to believe that the "libs" don't want democracy in Iraq? Of course they do. Liberals hold individual sovereignty and Liberties at the highest level...or do you not understand that liberals got their label from the love of Liberties? The problem those who do not support the war have is that they realize that the US does not have enough money, time, or military power to "win" in Iraq. This means we will succeed in only killing thousands more innocent civilians in Iraq, and US troops with the end result being the exact same as the current mess...just like Vietnam.

That's not hard to understand and I don't think liberals are the only ones confused about it. We probably should stop the labeling and deal with the issues as human beings instead of right and left. We are now fighting religious zealots from neighboring areas around the Middle East who came there why? Because they feel we shouldn't be there. When we stopped fighting for the Iraqi people our job there should've been done. The people we supposedly went there to fight for no longer reside there because of the instability. So why are we still there should be the question.

On the contrary, there is a Strong and violent civic division between the Sunni and Shiite population. This has resulted in a slew acts of terror. Our troops are fighting them. Secondly yes there was a great insurgency, this is greatly in part due to the lack of cooperation and involvement from Iraq's neighbors and the international community.

So although we are not fighting and formal Iraqi army, as they are our allies, the people who take it upon themselves to try to seize power by any means necessary are the enemy and yes many of them are Iraqi nationals.

THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT HAS NOT SHOWN ANY PROGRESS or wilingness to make efforts for peace -- after 4 years.

They dont want peace, or they would have already efforted towards it.

What efforts have they made -- explain them if you can -- that show thye are moving forward uniting the 3 groups?

There are none.

And bush wants to GAMBLE on this time they mean business.
How do you gamble on IRAQ -- and bet our troops lives so easy.

You seem to strongly support bush nicholasrage -- why dont you enlist in the military to show your patriotism if you trully believe in the efforts of our troops

We fought the government of Iraq. We required elections. Now, we're fighting against all the people who don't like us, don't like our presence there, and don't like the results of the elections we oversaw.

What's so hard to understand?

The "nation" of Iraq is an artificial construct dreamed up by western democracies as are so many of the world's trouble spots. It's no wonder that stability there can only be maintained through brutal dictatorships or constant warfare - the conflicting tribal, religious, and racial loyalties almost guarantee constant repression.

we already fought the country of iraq, and we won

why do iraqis hate us so much if we are fighting people who don't want to honor their wishes?

maybe because every sectarian group in iraq has their own wishes, and they all have a common hate toward americans.

Why don't you go enlist, then you can have iraqis giving you the finger and throwing rocks at you for a whole year, then maybe you'll understand what the hell we are trying to tell you

Moderate Democrats such as myself understand the difference.

Insurgents are not necessarily Iraqi people.

We're fighting a lot of different people, really. The ones directly against the US are the foreign folks, who realize that destabilizing Iraq makes it worse for US soldiers as well as fighting them directly.

Then, concerning the Sunnis and Shiites, yes, some are foreign who are coming in to fight. However, there are also Iraqi people fighting each other. When the US steps in to stop them, they get shot at and return fire. Thus, we get caught in the crossfire.

What is so hard to understand is how you insist that this situation is NOT the will of the people of Iraq...in fact, it is! The majority of Iraq WANTS to have this civil war to decide who controls the fate of their country, they are not happy with the ineffective government and want to battle it out instead. While it may be a stupid and sad way to settle differences, it is reality.

The major problem with libs is there inability to learn by setting aside their justified prejudices and preconceived notions that they are smarter than anyone else.

Arrogance and self imposed superiority makes them deaf, dumb and blind to knowledge.
You have to remember, these are a group of people who have been judging people by the color of their skin, their faith, their sex, by all the superficial means available since before the Civil War ( liberals-ie confederates- were the racists side to keep slave trade going): so if you're judging a book by its cover--and you're not interested in reading it--because you think you know what's inside? Of course, you'd be unable to use critical thinking skills to discern the dilemma in Iraq!!
I am not surprised. "Clinton" put us in this war by burying his fat head in the sand while trying to look up little girls dresses. lol.
