I have been on a birth control pill for over a year now. I have always gotten my period on time (usually a couple days before I took the sugar pills, but I didn't mind). My period lasted from 5-7 days and were normal (not light but not really heavy). However, this past February my period was only 2 days long and ended with a lot of brown discharge. Then, in between my pill pack I started to get breakthrough bleeding (something I never experienced before). My March period was back to normal. Then, I began breakthrough bleeding again in between my pill packs which lasted a little longer then the last month and ended in brown discharge. My April period was then very light and ended in brown discharge. What is the cause of this?? I have been on this pill for over a year and have never had a problem with it. What is going on??

Talk to your doctor. You may need a different pill with more or less hormones.

It's possible that because of the hormones your body may be getting used to this pill (yep, some people can become immune or used to a certain birth control pill too like can occur with some other medications).

Please get in touch with your dr to let them know what is going on so that they can evaluate this and see what they think is going on.

As everyone else said, you probably need a different pill.

Please don't worry about the light brown bleeding (it's perfectly normal) and smaller amount of bleeding. Don't worry if you don't bleed at all! Light bleeding is not an issue at all :)

I would definitely say that you should see your doctor and talk about switching to another birth control pill or another form of birth control. Typically you should be having normal periods and you have had them, but seeing as you haven't recently it's probably time to switch.

Your hormones are changing. See your Gyn. You could need a different pill.

A lot of things can affect your cycle, including stress. Have you had any changes in your life that have caused you to be more anxious or worried?
