whats the difference in sound and type of music that 12 string guitars are used for? I'm just about to begin playing so i dont know nothing about guitars.

12 string has a fuller sound cause it has 2 of every string.if youre starting tho start on a 6 string.plenty of time for a 12 string.you can get great sounding acoustic 6 strings.good luck

The difference is that on a 12 string guitar you have 2 strings per note. One is the bass note and the other is an octave higher on all but the B and high E strings, which are tuned to the same pitch. 12 string guitars are much harder to play than 6 string guitars, not to mention harder to tune. It isn't recommended that you get one if you haven't even begun to learn to play yet. Get yourself a 6 stringer, spend a year or so learning to play it, then if you are still interested in 12 string guitars, go and play a few at your local music shop before buying one.

You don't know anything about guitars, yet your gonna start w/ a 12 string? My, you are brave. Better to start with a 6 string then move up to 12 {Just advice}. Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive" intro is with a 12 string. It is better and has a richer sound than a 6 string, but it is harder to learn.

12 strings ring alot like several guitars at once. the sound is resounding. love the 12 string forever.

12 is a crisper higher pitch, full sounding instrument

my opinion: learn on a 6
