While diesel fuel, and heating oil are basically the same thing, the diesel contains additives that the heating oil doesn't. You would also be paying "highway taxes" on the diesel that you don't pay on the heating oil.

Check your fuel bill for your boiler. If it specifies #1 or #2 fuel, then yes you can. Commercially available diesel is #2 in most cases.

Depends...

I wouldn't, but my heat is provided by Natural Gas heated water.

(Diesel combustion would create some seriously dangerous byproducts that you wouldn't have to deal with with oil.)
