War's are fought for 2 reasons, either for resources or cultural intolerance. Luckily we are making progress in both areas somewhat.
Today the various international trade courts, the UN, IMF, and other international bodies have provided a forum for nations to seek resolutions to resource and trade disputes wihtout having to engage in War. Unfortunately little progress has been made on the cultural front with the exception that now there exists an international awareness which mitigates some of the tragedy. For instance 100 years ago Darfur would have been nothing more than headline after the genocide was complete where as today Sudan is prohibited from acting overtly against the people of Darfur lest they force an international response. This probably little comfort for those in Darfur who have suffered but the truth is it could be alot worse.
Today the truely scary catalyst for war on the cultural front is ideaology. For instance there is a very real war being waged between Fundamentalist Islam and Western Culture. There is no way to resolve these issues unless one is side is willing to alter their cultural beliefs. These really are two diametrically opposing sides. Fundamentalist Islam dictates a homogenous society based on the teachings of the Quran where as Western Culture embraces a pluralistic societal model where citizens are guaranteed certaind freedoms and rights. This was evident a little bit back when Quranic law which dictates that Mohamed can not be depicted clashed with the West's freedome of press and expression. Both sides consider these to be cornerstones to their societies and I am at a loss for how to resolve this conflict if one side is willing to comitt violence in order to implement their belief.

Man has been warring with each other since the beginning. It's about power, control/or the freedom from it, territory, money... What drives it is fear. Fear of not having enough or getting a fair deal... Someone else has something I want or think I need. The common goal of world peace is possible only in a world without fear. I don't know if that is possible but all the steps that can be taken should be taken. Like someone said in an earlier comment...the only thing that might pull this world together is an attack from some alien planet. Something like that would make us see once and for all that we are more alike than different. It would not be a black/white, east/west, "us" over here /"them" over there issue...it would make us realize that there is no "/ "between us and them. We all are the us and the "us" is all we have.

Yeah, and global warming is it, except no one is worried about it. Yet. The only thing that demolishes differences is panic, except if that panic is over the very differences we can control, then we either fight or flee. We can not fight global warming, but we can flee from it as long as possible, but we can't flee from it if we're fighting each other.
We must stand like a pack of wolves, not as individuals, and until that day comes, the whole world would have to be one millisecond from destruction before everyone looks around and goes "what the hell were we thinking? We're all the bloody same! Jesus we were stupid!"

[Sigh] War will never end. It is kind of like asking when people will stop dying, or when there will be no poverty. War will always exist so long as the human race and so long as people have things to fight over that are worth dying for. I know you want the best but it isn't going to happen. Maybe there was only one country with one ethnic group. However that would lead to the loss of over a billion lives.

that's actual that the U. S. helped plenty to defeat the Germans- and the jap... however the Russians have been in all probability greater significant, the Soviet military grew to become into arranged to combat a conflict of attrition and it wore down nearly all of the German military... no rely if we'd be conversing German if the U. S. hadn't intervened is yet another question... the united kingdom might desire to've fallen i think... however the African area is exciting, I never incredibly studied that area.... i ponder whether the united kingdom and Russia on my own might have been effective against Germany? The British troops in Singapore have been a shambles nonetheless, incredibly decrease than-potential, virtually thoroughly unprepared. That area of the conflict wasn't a achievement in any respect. the U. S. have been instrumental interior the Pacific theatre for Japan's defeat, yet do not forget approximately that the jap military grew to become into exhausted- they have been struggling with with China for the reason that 1931... admittedly, jap military and army have been quite badly co-ordinated to boot, yet attempting to occupy all of China wasn't a good suggestion... in simple terms like Germany attacking Russia... i think that the united kingdom might have fallen if the U. S. hadn't intervened after 1942, yet with out British resistance, the U. S. could have been negotiating with a Europe controlled via Facists... in case you think of Britain nonetheless resisting, yet there being no Russian contribution, the U. S. and the united kingdom might have had a much greater stable time against the Germans... of direction, the atomic bomb might have been an equaliser. Ah, if it have been the united kingdom thoroughly on my own, no Russia or usa, i think of it could have been the greater serious for our fore-fathers. There might've been stiff resistance, yet once you seem at what the German military might desire to do interior the placement because it grew to become into, i think of that's complicated to think of the united kingdom on my own turning returned an entire Nazi attack- nonetheless, impossible to comprehend incredibly...

War will only end if you could eliminate ethnic diversity, did away with all the different religions, and we all thought alike. Wouldn't that be boring?
