I am sorta 2-sided on this issue. I do not think you have to wait until the baby is 6 months old to give them cereal but I do not think it is a good idea to do it too soon. If you are going to do anything I would put no more than about a 1/2 teaspoon in the bottle before bed so he will sleep well and give you some needed rest as well. He/she is too young to eat off a spoon and may choke. The baby does not need a bowl of cereal as this young age because it can make him constipated and hurt his tummy. A small amount in his bottle will be fine, but a small amount. Rice cereal is better to start with. Good luck and God Bless!!

If you feel like cereal is what is the best answer for your child's inability to fill up on just milk. That's okay. Ask your doctor. My son ate cereal at 1 month, bc from the time he was born he was eating 8oz every 2 hours. Very watery cereal and from a spoon never a bottle. Make your cereal like milk almost. The best combination is cereal and prepared formula. It's the healthiest combination. Never use regular milk. If you notice a rash or your child choking on it. Then he is not ready. Consult your doctor with any questions about how much he should be eating also check out Pampers.com they have a place with answers to questions many moms have. Good luck.

Cereal at this age can be dangerous. He needs the nutrition in the breastmilk (or formula) and the cereal robs him of that. It can cause choking and constipation. It will not help him sleep through the night, he may feel fuller but he will be deprived of important nutrients (cereal doesn't have any vitamins, minerals, proteins or fats) so he will wake up hungrier and feeling awful. Cereal is for fun and experience once the baby is 4 months old. It was a common practice to give newborns cereal in years past but we have learned better since then. Call your doctor before you do it.

This is a very out-dated idea; the objective being the baby sleeping through the night sooner. It does not help. There have been studies on it. I exclusively breastfed both of my babies and one started sleeping 6 hours straigh at 3 weeks and then 11 hours at 3 1/2 months and the other slept 6 hours at 3 months and didn't sleep for 10 hours until she was 10 months old. Every baby is different as far as the amount of sleeping they will do, but every baby is the same in that their digestive tracts are not ready for baby cereal until at least 4 months. Enjoy your little one!

All a newborn baby needs is breast milk or formula. Cereal is not neccessary or recommended. Putting it in a bottle is just silly. Yes it can choke him, as babies of that age are not equiped yet to eat solids. Plus it would clog up the bottle.
Please, your milk or formula will give baby all he needs until at least 4 months!

Each baby is different. My first son was taking baby cereal in his bottle very early. My second son did not take it so early. Start with small amounts and watch your baby. If they do ok, then continue. If after 3-5 days and your baby hasn't pooped, then stop and wait a few days. Sometimes a change in diet can not have a baby go for a couple of days.

Do NOT give your 1 month old rice cereal, especially not in a bottle!!

1) Chocking hazard--I'm sure your mom means well, but she's not a doctor.

2) Too young. Immature digestive system.

He will NOT sleep better at night!

Talk to your doctor. They recommend no cereal until 6 months for a normal baby. 3 months if your baby has GERD. And yes, it might cause a lil constipation at first.

ABSOLUTELY!!
my mom said the same thing. Remember, things were done alot differently 20 years ago! Babies do not need anything other than breast milk,or formula for the first 5-6 months of life(unless told otherwise by a health care professional!)
