i have a backyard wrestling fed which is making the jump to the indy level and we're looking to make some new title belts. we did the cardboard thing back in the day, and we've even customized WWE replica belts....but im looking for a good and fairly inexpensive way to constuct them myself. any and all ideas are welcome

I'm trying to think of something to say about this. You kids are going to get yourself killed all over a doofy belt. Why don't you skip the theatrics of jumping off a rope and just join the WWE?

I won't make a judgement on your games except to say that I hope it is completely fake and choreographed like the real WWE.

I am a seamstress, so I would use fabric with drapery interfacing inside. Drapery interfacing is a stiff mesh available at the fabric store. Here is how:

Trace the shape of your belt onto the interfacing. Cut it out. Cut 2 big squares of fabric and position them so the right sides are together. Use quilt adhesive spray to stick your interfacing to the top of the pile. Pin everything together and sew through all 3 layers with a quarter-inch seam. That means you keep the right side of the presser foot along the edge of the interfacing. Leave a hole someplace so you can turn it right side out!

Cut around the edges and turn it right side out. Sew up the opening. Poke holes in the back and use rawhide or yarn to tie the ends together.

Paint the front with glitter paint. Make stencils if you don't want to work freehand.

Well, you could start with a leather base, and saddle making accruements.
