Oh my goodness I know exactly how you feel. I've been battling social anxiety for a long time now and all you have to do is take a deep breath, dial the number, and say "Yes, I need to make an appointment to come in for (whatever)" and they'll ask your name and if you have a different-ish name like mine, you can spell it out when you say it to make sure they've got it right. Then either they'll give you a time or ask you to pick whatever times they have available! I know it's rough...I have a problem with making appointments, too but I just sit and practice what I want to say before I dial the number. I know it's easier when it's your job so don't let anyone put you down for it; you're not alone!

Don't have much advice -- I just wanted to add that I HATE that, too. Especially if it's about something I don't feel comfortable talking about anyway.

I'm just always surprised when I call the doctor and get a receptionist and I say I need to make an appointment to see a certain doctor, and she says, "And what will you be seeing the doctor for?"

I just hate it. I know they need to know so they can book the appropriate amount of time, but if the reason I'm seeing the doctor is in any way embarrassing, I really hate having to say it on the phone to the receptionist.

You just say, "Hi! I need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Feelgood" or whoever. They will pretty much take it from there. Have your clinic number or patient number ready if you can. If you're nervous, write down what to say before you call. The person on the other end of the phone is probably bored out of their mind and isn't paying one bit of attention beyond what's absolutely necessary. Plus, they can't see you so they don't know how nervous you are. Trust me, people are too wrapped up in their own lives to notice others. You'll do fine.

"Hi, I would like to make an appointment with (doctor's name) because (reason-keep short). I would like to appointment to be on a (day of the week) preferably at (time you would like the appointment)."
She might ask if you have been there before, what insurance you have ( and other insurance info), you might need to tell her your current address, phone number (work too). Give medications you are on as well.
Or you can have someone do it for you.

You give your name and say you want to make an appointment with the doctor. That's all. If the secretary asks you questions, you answer them.

"Hi, I'd like to make an appointment with Dr. So-and-so."
"Okay, which days are good for you?"
"Thursday and Friday. Can you get me in at 3?"
"We have an opening at 2:45. Will that work?"
"Okey-dokey!"
