im designing a set for a school play and one scene requires a bookcase to be in the back of a 1958 ganster's hideout..

so far ive thought of a safe and a tomy gun, what else???? (im at the school ofice at the moment and im trying to do this scene today)

How about an autographed photo of Marilyn Monroe? Or of there is a girl in the role of gun Moll, she could pose for a black & white glamour shot and autograph it with a sharpie marker..

I'm not sure, but I recommend you watch the original Star Trek (original series) episode: "A Piece of the Action." The entire episode is about a planet of people who mimic the things they've seen or encountered, specifically, early 1900's gangs. That should give you ideas of costumes and props.
