yes thewindywest, it is speculative trading based on whther or not the supply will "might" go up or down.
no matter if supply dwindles or not, the threat that it "might" drives the prices up. that threat for the past several years has been every conflict

The terrorists want to attack Saudi Oil production because it would disrupt the Saudi government, which they believe has sold out to the infidels. In their short-sightedness, they don't realize how much this would help the fledgling Iraqi government. When the price of oil soars, Iraq will get a huge influx of capital that will be used to rebuild infrastructure, and, because of their recent new laws, some of the money will get disbursed to the Iraqi people as oil royalties. It would hurt us here in the US, but would aid our cause in Iraq.

Their aim was to hurt the Saudi and the US governments. The potential benefits to Iraq were overlooked, in my opinion.

As far as oil companies go, I think they are all corrupt. If something happenes to threaten the oil supply and the cost of producing it goes up, it seems to me that oil companies' profits shouldn't go up, too. If their costs go up along with the prices, their profit percentage should stay the same instead of increase. Instead, we see them making record profits when these things happen. That tells me that the price increase wasn't necessary and they were just gouging us for all they can get. Maybe I just don't understand the process, but it just seems to me that it is dirty.

The planned terrorist attacks on Saudi Oil fields are a bit perplexing. It's Saudi oil wealth that funds wahabism, which in turns funds terrorism. It's like biting the hand that feeds the hand that feeds you.

The only motivation I can think of is that it's part of a bid to oust the Saudi royal family and seize power. If you convince the international community that the Saudi's can't maintain the flow of oil, the support of that community might be lost, allowing for a fairly quick coup. Seems like a longshot, but it's not like these are the most level-headed folks in the world.

NO ONE IS ATTACKING OIL REFINERIES, WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO REALIZE THIS!?!? LOOK ON YAHOO NEWS!!!

NEW YORK - Oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp. kicked off 2007 with a 10 percent rise in profits, its best-ever first quarter, as higher margins on refining and chemical operations offset lower prices for crude oil and natural gas.Exxon Mobil, the world's largest publicly traded oil company, said Thursday it earned $9.3 billion in the January-March period, beating Wall Street expectations, even as revenue slipped and fell well short of analysts' forecasts.

Thennnnn the next story is this!

NEW YORK - Oil prices pushed above $66 a barrel Friday after Saudi Arabia announced the arrests of 172 Islamic militants, some of whom planned to attack oil fields.

Traders didn't initially react to the news, analysts said. But then they started thinking.

"The concern is that we know al-Qaida's number one priority is to hit an oil field in Saudi Arabia," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. in Chicago. "They're just not going to quit."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! IN ONE STORY IM BEING TOLD A COMPANY THAT IS MAKING EVERYONE GO BROKE FROM DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK, IS MAKING billion dollar profits in a QAURTER!!!!!?? Why does everyone believe this. Gas isn't going anywhere...There are ways we can travel with out the use of gas but every invention that comes out is bought by the oil companies so they can continue to rape the people of this planet and retire with 25 million dollar retirement packages. Everyone needs to wake up and relize whats going on around them. Well let me take that back, don't even worry about it because even if you know...its not going to change anything.

I study the solutions of all the others that responded, and whilst I agree that each physique conflict in mans heritage has not been tied to grease i'm going to declare that because WWI oil has been the determining element. not basically that yet i could state that if issues proceed at contemporary expenditures, oil often is the recent reason in the back of wars, extremely to being basically the element that determines the winner of such wars. needless to say, that's simplifying issues, as all of us comprehend that there are different factors in contact in why international locations pass to conflict, yet at this element and time in heritage, oil is the tie that binds maximum if not all of those different factors. I completely disagree with the thought that flex gasoline vehicles are the respond, as you will basically be procuring and merchandising one flamable for yet another and could in the tip basically extra entangle peoples on an widespread basis lives with the real situation which isn't oil in step with say, yet potential. you may, regardless of assertion to the alternative, decrease into international food factors in a fashion that could assure conflict even swifter than oil itself ever ought to. I agree that determination could desire to be developed, yet i think that the respond in the very short term is a greater suitable use of contemporary supplies till the subsequent technologies is perfected. for occasion, we desire greater suitable make the main of our image voltaic, wind, hydroelectric, organic gasoline and nuclear potential in a fashion that drastically cuts our dependence on oil be it foreign places or kin.

When you attack an enemy, you attack thrir energy source. Two attempts of the Axis to attack the United states was an attack on our energy capacity. A Japanese Submarine successfully shelled our oil stoage facility in Santa Barbara. The German's attempted to land commandos via sub in the east cost to damage our electicity generating capacity, so it would destroy our ability to manufacture aluminum. An attack on the Saudi is also warn about their alliance with the US. They don't have much other than oil.

This is a good question. Of course our enemies are going to attempt to disrupt our supply of oil. Oil is America's lifeblood and very little money is being spent on research for alternative energy sources.

If you are really upset about this write to your congressman and tell him or her about it. Here is a website to find your representative.

Why attack schools, hospitals, market places or any of the places they attack? I don't really see the point of your question.
