I would take Brady Quinn, but it looks as if Gaines Adams is the popular pick right now.

If they're drafting a player to keep him, take Adams or Joe Thomas. If they're serious about moving down, you draft Calvin Johnson and let Atlanta and play a game of chicken with both Atlanta and Tampa Bay...let the best offer win.

They need to trade down and acquire more picks. After the Raiders select Russell they can trade down with Tampa getting their 4th pick plus a 2nd rounder and Simien Rice. Or offer the pick to Atlanta for their 8th choice and the 2nd rounder acquired in the Schaub trade plus a 5th or 6th round pick (both teams crave the chance to get Johnson). If they get the 4th pick from TB they need to pick LaRon Landry so they have the coveted centerfielder for their Tampa (cover) 2 scheme. It cant work without a dominating safety and he is just what the doctor ordered. If they get the 8th pick from Atlanta they need to pick either Patrick Willis or Adam Carriker (or Landry if he slid that far). I am not sold on Adams, he is pretty small and while he may be a dynamic pass rusher what happens 1st and 2nd down when teams run right at him? Can he hold up against the run or will he end up being a 3rd down pass rush specialist? The Lions cant afford to draft someone that cant perform every down. They have signed 3 offensive lineman and traded for another so drafting thomas makes little sense. Marinelli is a defensive specialist, why take offensive guys and play away from what he does best? Landry (top safety), Willis (the best LB available and plays with the speed that Marinelli desires in his LBs) or Carriker (the best DE on the board, has size to play the run and while not the pass rusher that Adams is he is still very good) are the only guys that make sense with their first pick. They can add a defensive peice and a QB in round 2 if they can trade the 2nd overall pick or they could take two defensive guys in round 2 and draft a QB in round 3 (Edwards will slide to the 3rd if not taken by the Lions or Browns) or Beck, Stanton or Kolb...all should slide to the 3rd.Depending on who they select in round 1 these guys should be available to choose from in round 2 : Justin Durant LB (explosive speed, only knock was level of competition), Josh Wilson CB (very good cover corner, solid speed), Micheal Griffin S (good centerfielder, excellent in run support and hard hitter), Jarvis Moss DE/OLB (hybrid end, similar to Simien Rice when he was drafted) or David Harris LB (excellent run stuffer, smart, needs work on coverage).

Trade the pick. If you cant take the man that would most likly help the most and that is not Calvin Johnson. It would either be Gains Adams or LT Joe Thomas. I would go with Thomas myself. You can find DEs every draft, you can not find elite LTs in every draft.
