I love Carrie Underwood's music and I think that she is a very talented artist. I truly do. But, that being said, what would have happened if a male artist would have sung that song? Think about it. "Before She Cheats", about a guy who smashes out his girlfriends windows, carves his name into her seats, flattens all of her tires, etc...
I understand that it is just a song, and a very good one at that. My question is: If the song were written by a male, would you think "psycho" or "stalker?" Be honest with yourselves and with your answer. Thanks!

hell yeah I would think "creepy stalker". The reason I think the song is so popular is because there are THOUSANDS of country songs with women crying and whining about their broken heart because thier man cheated. well Carrie sent the empowering message that she was no victim and that she has a new love: her Louisville Slugger .

You are right! Pretty women also seem to get away with more in society. What would the average guy say if Carrie Underwood spilled a drink all over them? What if the same
thing happened to the same guy with a woman that he found unattractive?

No, she's a psycho stalker too.
Seriously I know this stuff happens and it is mostly girls who do it but that's so LOW!
If my ex ever touched my car he'd be one dead jerk! and if I did something to his car I'd expect a bad outcome aswell.
Guys like aggressive girls though so that song probably turns their crank and girls like songs that let them be out there and wild so they like the song.
However if a male did sing it, it would be considered very creepy, stalker-ish, psycho-ish, etc. and just not appropriate.
So yes it is a double standard like everything else in the world.
Sad very sad.
The double standard bugging me the most right now is racism. A white person cracks a black joke and he should be killed, a black person cracks a white person joke and he's a hero.
Not cool!

Yes, it is a song, but that is the whole point. What if a dude sang Earline had to die instead of Earl had to die (dixie chicks) yes it's a double standard, but I think those songs were sung more toungue annd cheek then serious.
Guys get away with it too "I'm just talking about tonigh" by Tobey Keith.

A man scorned just doesn't play as well as a woman scorned. Too, if a woman is got cheating on her guy...likely consequence? In many scenarios it likely isn't the car that's getting tore up and beat to hell. And quite honestly, I just can't see a guy singing the same song.

I like both artist, the way carrie speaks and the way marilyn speaks are waaaaaaaaayyyyy different. It may be the marilyn does not choose to have a edited version of his song to play on the radio. They are many other songs out there about being violent and death that have become popular.

The song is about a girl or woman asserting herself to her cheating husband or boyfriend. If a guy sang it, it wouldn't make any sense - it's almost always the guy cheating on the girl.

it is a double standard. I would defintly think that he was psycho. and I probably wouldn't like the song if it was by a guy. Great question!

You're right on the money. It's a double standard if ever there was one. I don't think it's right to destroy personal property if your lover cheats on you, regardless of your sex and regardless of the severity of cheating. It's just wrong.

Yeah, it's always more adorable when a girl gets back at an ex than vice-versa. On the plus side, women only make 82 cents on the dollar that men make.
