well, there is always the viewing decks at the top of the Sears Tower and the John Hancock building. My parents take us there and we have a blast. There are many museums out there like Musem of Science and Industry (mostly for kids but you might find it interesting), The Art Institute of Chciago, and the Field Museum (my personal favorite, many things there that would interest anyone. They have the world's largest T-Rex!) It is right across the street from Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears. Also, if you're into shopping, take a stroll down Michigan Avenue. Make sure to bring lots of money if you do this. It can be expensive but you're sure to find something. If you want to see a baseball game, there is Wrigley Field (home of the Chicago Cubs; my sister is seeing them play the Phillies in August for Aaron Rowand, who got traded from the White Sox) and U.S. Cellular Field (home of THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX). It's a kid-friendly stadium and super fun to go to. There is also "The Bean." It's a very big bean structure that you can walk under and it's a mirror. Very cool to take pictures in. A MUST SEE. I'm not sure where it is though. Also, go to one of their famous beaches. They are clean and fun to go to. The water is very nice in August. Also, go to Navy Pier. There is so much to do there it's hard to explain. If you like animals, go to the Lincoln Park Zoo. This is a very nice zoo, especially in the winter when they have "ZooLights" where the whole zoo is lit up with Christmas lights. I can't stress this enough but you can't go to Chicago and not have their pizza. There's Lou Malnotti's, Gino's East (my favorite), Pizzaria Uno, and lots of other places. Make sure you get the deep-dish. I love the four-cheese deep-dish at Gino's East. Hope you enjoy your time in Chicago

I agree with Laura above, not sure what burst means by it being boring. It is the best place to live. It is vibrant, full of life & energy.

Not sure your age, but if you are between 18-30, right now one of the hottest spots in the city is the Milwaukee / North ave. area. It is trendy and hot as well as weird people surround this area. Not too far from where Glen suggested watch the EL. Also stop by the Oprah Winfrey Show area.

You're coming at a good time, In august you can always find street fairs, open markets, art festivals, free concerts, etc. Just grap a newspaper on your arrival (I think on Thurs) they have the weekend section which will give you information on events around town.

It is a place like no other, we party, play, and relax hard!

I think you could live there and never run out of things to do... it is an awesome place..

Try going to Fields Museum of Natural History, Shedd's Aquarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Magnificent Mile, which has the best shopping in any city I have ever been! There's the Sears tower, Soldier Field, Navy Pier, scores of blues clubs, concerts, and there are endless choices as far as eating goes.

I would suggest going to your library and getting a Lonely Planet guide to Chicago. Those guides are the best and often include prices also...

Have fun!

I recommend Redfish at 600 N. State for good cajun-style food and nightly live blues music.
