Hi I have a Dell Dimension 8200 which uses the RDRAM modules. I have been trying to upgrade from the current 256 MB but the RDRAM is so expensive. I want to know if i can use any other froms of memory like DDRAM or SDRAM.

I have gone to both http://www.crucial.com and http://www.powerleap.com which is actually guaranteed by Dell upgrades. But all the memory is preety stiff.
I mean a 128MB module is upto $100.

MiCtallan.
Upgrade solutions is a waste of time. They can only upgrade the hard drives.

Thanx guys. Looks like i will have to ditch the whole thing.
I think the dell system is locked. Its been very hard adding hardware to the system because it rejects them or wont recognize them

No - unfortunately, the Rambus RIMM's used in the 8200 series are the only type of memory that will work in that system.
As you have already stated, they are extremely expensive compared to other RAM types. ($400 for an additional 512MB).
For that money, you should just buy a new basement level computer and move any parts (video card, dvd/cd burner, etc) over to that system.
You could also try a new motherboard that your current processor would work on (you probably have the 2.8ghz P4). A new board and 1GB of memory for it would only cost about $150.
BUT - you would probably have problems moving your hard drive over from the Dell, since XP will notice the new mobo and freak out. You might just have to activate again, or re-install. If that's the case, then you Dell disk won't work, since the BIOS won't match the new mobo.
This all goes back to RAMBUS charging an outrageous licensing fee for the RIMMs so manufacturers just told them to go pound sand and they developed the cheaper memory. In fact, a lawsuit against Rambus was finally settled just last week.

Nope there is no other modules that your dell can support, it only accepts RDRAM, Im suprised that a 256 mb memory stick costs 150 dollars wow. But anyways thats your only option.

I am in the Same Situation; The only Place is upgrade solutions.com on the west coast; They are the Cheapest.
The most moderate quote I got recently was 1,036.00 for 4 of the 512s. The other Alternative is New MotherBoard, which is a close second in overall cost

You can go to www.crucial.com and see what kind of RAM your computer can use.
Once you have found out, go to www.froogle.com and search for the RAM. Then go to the bottom and enter a price range. Don't make it too cheap, or you'll get bad results.

Go to www.crucial.com and see what is recommended. They allow scans of your computer and the recommended RAM for a pretty decent price. They may have other suggestions as well.

You can run a free test at http://www.crucial.com and find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. It will automatically test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).
You can get cheap memory at http://www.tigerdirect.com or http://www.newegg.com
