Hello! Thank you for reading my question! I am 16 years old and have had my period for 3 years. It is still really irregular! I also get really bad cramps and PMS, before and during my period. I also still go to a Pediatrician . Is that weird that I still go to a Pediatrician at my age? I am going to the doctors in a few days and I was thinking about asking her about birth control. Right now I have no intentions of having sex anytime soon, but ive heard it helps for period pain. Can I get birth control from my Pediatrician or do I have to go to the gyno?? I really dont want to go to the gyno. If I could avoid it, id really like to. So, that is my question....

Can I get birth control from my Pediatrician or do I have to go to the gyno?

Any answer will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for reading!

You can go to a pediatrician until you are 18 so that's not weird. I would ask the pediatrician. If they think you need to see a GYN then they will tell you that. You should ask her about the pill. You can get the pill from the pediatrician. I get mine from my family doctor not a GYN. Lots of girls go on the pill to help with irregular or heavy periods. They usually will want to do a pap smear (which is an internal exam) before they put you on the pill, but ask the pediatrician. If you are young and not sexually active they may prescribe it without doing a pelvic exam. Good luck.

I would suggest you go to a gyno because you are at the age that girls should be getting checked even though you aren't having sex its still a good idea to get checked by a gyno every year. A gyno also knows more about periods and the pill, so they would be able to answer your questions more accuratly. I started going to the gyno when I was 15 and have been going ever since.

It is about time for you to go to a Gynecologist. Because in all honesty your symptoms sound like ENDOMETRIOSIS.

I Knew it well from the age of 13 to 37 (then I had a Hysterectomy). The severe pain, PMS, and I always had heavy bleeding and was always irregular.

Motrin or Ibuprofen will help the inflammation some.

I was on birth control for 6 months and it was fabulous in evening out the problems.

Ask your Mom to take you to and Ob. gyn. (although some people keep going to their Pediatrician for a long time because they trust them) Good Luck you will need a good OB. Gyn. for a lot of years.

You should see a gyn for this particular situation. You will need an internal exam. I have 14 and 15 year old daughters. They see a ped. but also a gyn. Only a gyn should decide if birth control is the way to go.

Usually at the age of 17 your mother should not be in the room for the exam with your pedi doc. Tell him/her what your concerns are, they will listen and will not tell you mom if you don;t want them to. Also they can say something like you are old enough to get a pap smear and should make an appointment. Your mom should agree because that information is coming from the Doctor. Good Luck.

Address this issue to your pediatrician and if he feels that you need a gyno he will refer you to one.

Your Pedi can give you BC but you may want to consider talking to a gyno, no exam just talk. They may be able to help find out y its so painful.

Good Luck I hope This Helps

You need to go to a gyno. They only deal with female problems.

Your pediatrician could prescribe bc but may not want to. It is probably time to get a gynecologist and a general practitioner
