Mormon4 stated that later prophets have "determined" this refers to coffee and tea, but I would clarify by saying they have "revealed" this revelations was referring to coffee and tea. Other hot drinks are fine. Oh, and kimchee is yummy.

It is a personal decision.

Each member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is admonished by their leaders to read the scriptures and come to know the teachings therein for themselves. Along with this study, we are to pray to our Heavenly Father for the Spirit to be with us and help us understand His Word as we study.

Traditionally, 'hot drinks' has been interpreted to mean coffee and black tea. But there are Mormons that do not drink any kind of tea, including herbal teas. There are Mormons that do drink caffiene, such as Coke. There are those that abstain from all caffiene, including chocolate. The church has left this doctrine to the members to determine for themselves what it means and how to best follow it.

The part of the Word of Wisdom that teaches to eat fruits/veggies in season and eat meat in small amounts is treated the same way. It is left to each member to decide the best way for them to follow this law.

When we go in for our Temple Recommend interview, our Bishop does not ask "Have you had coffee" or "Have you smoked"? He asked, "Do you follow the Word of Wisdom"? It is left to us to decide if we are truly trying to follow the commandments in the Word of Wisdom as best we can.

I am Mormon and Mormons drink tea! We do not drink caffeinated tea, or hot drinks. We even drink hot chocolate and chocolate milk which technically has caffeine in it. That is why we have a prohpet so we know what is okay and what isn't.
We try to be healthy!
